Although you might think that Solar Power should be reserved for use in hot, sunny climates, a suitably designed Solar PV (electric) system will perform surprisingly well in the UK. Contrary to popular belief, Solar PV panels work best in cool clear conditions, so a climate that's hot and sunny may not produce as much power as you'd expect. Additionally, the UK is situated at higher latitudes than the Mediterranean, for example, and so the track of the sun across the sky forms more of an extended "arc" than in the lower latitudes of the Med. This is most noticeable in the summer months, when the sun only drops below the horizon for a few hours each night, giving up to 16 hours of daylight or more each day. During the winter months, the sun is only visible for around 8 hours. To optimise the production of power from a Solar PV system, a solar array should point due South at a tilt angle based on the latitude of the site. We will look for the optimum position on your site to place a solar array, such that it is positioned away from "shadow sources" and other visual obstacles. The ideal "spot" may be tens of meters away from the nearest building, so the more open space your property has around it, the more options we'll have in choosing the ideal array location. We'll then assist you to install your Solar PV system, or will fully install it for you, and will commission it when the work has been completed to the relevant standards. You will be eligible to receive an "export" rate of around 3p/kW for any unused power produced from your system, as well as being able to sell ROCs (Renewable Obligations Certificates) and FITs (Feed-In-Tariff) when they come into force in April 2010 for all power produced from your array. FIT rates will be paid at a massive 41.3p/kW from April 1st 2010. We have joined forces with the Solar Energy Alliance, Lowestoft, UK, to bring Solar PV systems to the public at very affordable rates. Our Solar Pages have been formed to promote this unique offering, to compliment the new Feed-In-Tariffs which came into force in April 2010. Call or
email now to book your Site Survey. We cover South Scotland & the Southern
Highlands. Visit Our Solar Pages for full details of this offering. |
